Product History
The DriTran concept evolved when increased production
needs of industrial equipment began resulting in ball screw drive
failures. As ball bearing based devices were
exposed to increasingly extreme environmental conditions and performance expectations,
sudden catastrophic failures began to occur more frequently. To
avoid down time of entire
production lines, application engineers began removing the ball bearings from
damaged drives,
placing the screw inside the nut housing and filling the thread path with an
off-the-shelf
epoxy. Once cured, the configuration allowed a machine to perform production
tasks at reduced
speeds, while a replacement drive system was in transit. To improve on this simple
idea,
TranTek tested countless combinations of epoxy formulas, lubrication materials,
thread
configurations,
and production techniques. The results are an ideal industrial drive system incorporating
a DriTran trade-secret-composite nut mated to a multi-start high-lead screw.
With
an efficiency of 80%, excellent wear characteristics and extraordinary strength,
this configuration
provides an extremely reliable drive method.
